"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." - Carl Rogers
Whilst we're inspired and influenced by the person-centred approaches of both Carl Rogers and David Bowie, we often find ourselves supporting organisations making change within groups of people. The nature of the shift can vary - it might be behavioural, something cultural, something strategic, or more process based. In every case, it has helped to work with the clients to understand, not just the challenge and context of their change, but also the feelings that talk of change can provoke.
This Learning Lab provides an opportunity to explore change - and what it means for you and those around you. Our intention is that you'll leave the Lab with a greater understanding of approaches and responses to change. This will help in bringing people to the boundary of change. And crucially, stepping over it.
Areas we will cover include:
- The spectrum of our receptiveness to change.
- Some enablers and hindrances in making change.
- Factors that help support and sustain change in people.
- Application of these ideas amongst a (diverse) group of individuals.
The ways we will work include:
- Reflecting on our own experiences of changing (or not).
- Sharing examples of change - particularly ones that we've been involved in with teams and organisations.
- Considering an organisation or group situation where change is needed.
- Supporting each other to approach change boundaries with more confidence and capability.
As ever, the lab will be insightful, interactive and fun - a chance to hear the expertise and experience of a seasoned practitioner - whilst really interrogating the issues of change that are facing you and colleagues right now.
Our Facilitator:
As a coach and facilitator, Jonathan Bowring draws on his leadership career - frequently at the forefront of change - in the technology and language industries. He is naturally curious, with wide interests in science, the arts and humanities. Jonathan was trained by Canon as a mentor, coach and facilitator and by Henley Business School in executive coaching. Our favourite bit of testimonial about Jonathan is this, which speaks oceanic volumes: “If still waters run deep, then Jonathan is the Mariana Trench of wisdom, coaching skills and facilitation ability.”
