We’re sorry, we’ve made a mistake….
…. you’re not the right person for the job.
If you regularly imagine someone tapping you on the shoulder and telling you this, then you may well be experiencing the Impostor Phenomenon (over time it has come to be known as a syndrome, but it was christened the Impostor Phenomenon by the original researchers, Pauline Clance and Suzanne Imes).
Back in 2019 we shared our experience of working with coaching clients facing the challenges of the Impostor Phenomenon. We highlighted some of the telltale signs that the Impostor Phenomenon is making its presence felt. We discussed some ideas for tackling it.
It seems that the Impostor Phenomenon is now even more prevalent and affecting even more talented people.
So, we're bringing the topic back to the Lab. This reboot of a classic theme will contain more research, more client and coach experience and more thoughts on how to address it.
Through theory, exercises and discussion, you will:
- Re-visit the Impostor Phenomenon and learn how to recognise it;
- Discuss what makes it different from common-or-garden self-doubt;
- Explore some techniques for addressing contributing factors, such as attribution patterns;
- Consider how to turn your (or someone else's) Impostor Phenomenon into your (or their) superpower
- Take away your own action plan for success
