Learning Lab: Debriefing Skills

Learning Labs
March 16, 2023

Learning Lab #43

That old adage ‘people learn best through experience’ is not necessarily true.

For learning to take place, people need to both reflect and make sense of the experience, and then think through how they will apply that learning.

One of the most powerful applications of coaching, indeed of all the work we do here at Management Futures, is to facilitate learning through effective debriefs of experience.

This is about taking the time to squeeze more richness out of the experience we have. Done well it can drive a very steep learning curve, build responsibility and confidence, and increase focus on results. This skill is a huge part of any high-performance environment that has learned to sustain success.
