Can exploring vulnerability really enhance performance?
The coaching paradigm - the patterns of concepts that we use in our practice - is often framed as energetic, positive and forward focused. This lab provokes us with a different perspective: a clear view of the value of leaning-in to the less positive experiences of our colleagues and clients.
We see how teams are uniquely placed to notice signs of stress and distress in their members. Also, how that team can be empowered to provide support and strengthen its performance.
In this interactive session, we ask what it means to be vulnerable in a team setting - and why this should matter to those interested in developing the performance of people and the teams they form.
What to expect:
- Insight into the benefits of exploring - and expressing - vulnerability.
- Challenge to various myths and misconceptions around what it is to be vulnerable.
- Noting the impact of a variety of stressful factors such as budget constraints, fatigue, staffing and wellbeing issues.
- Reflection on less familiar, yet pressing, issues such as Moral Injury, where team members may be called on to work against their values.
- Exploration of the link between vulnerability and trust in teams.
How we will work:
- We'll connect with each other around shared resources we bring from our own experiences in the workplace.
- The conversation will be facilitated by two Executive Coaches who are both experienced GPs.
- By the end of the session we will have taken a close-up look at vulnerability and how we might use and develop thinking - and practice - involving the term, in our own contexts.
- This session was designed by Sue Morrison and Naomi Craft
