Learning Lab #40
A person cannot become a hero until they can see the roots of their own downfall.' (Aristotle)
'You underestimate the power of the Dark Side.' (Darth Vader).
The search for high-performance, positivity, and individual responsibility has brought much-needed balance and dynamism to many areas of working life.
It has, however, led to what is sometimes dubbed the 'tyranny' of the positive.
An unrelenting pursuit of excellence can lead to undue pressures and unrealistic expectations being placed upon people at work.
Some contemporary psychologists, while highlighting these dangers, also fear an abandonment of much new learning and a return to old habits such as traditional hierarchies and the 'problem' focus . What is needed, they say, is a synthesis of old and new, strength and weakness, positive and negative, the light side and the dark side.
There's no need to venture to a galaxy far, far away - because these are the forces we'll be looking to master in this learning lab.
